ABOUT
The Empowering Women of Color Conference is brought to you by the Women of Color Initiative of the Graduate Assembly, UC Berkeley. Our purpose is to build bridges between academic and community women of color in an effort to assist them in sharing resources, strategies, and visions that will empower them at all levels of society. EWOCC strives to build networks among different generations, ethnic and racial groups, socioeconomic levels, sexual orientations, and physical abilities. Few forums exist wherein women of color are provided the space to dialogue about the issues that matter most to them. EWOCC provides such a forum.
VISION STATEMENT
The 27th annual Empowering Women of Color Conference (EWOCC), themed “A Holistic Approach: Justice, Access & Healing,” honors our legacies, celebrates our struggles and provides a space to build community and share practical tools to shape our everyday lives. This year’s conference will focus on the mental, physical, nutritional, environmental, and spiritual wellness of women of color.
Fostering the empowerment of women of color demands taking a holistic approach to our health by reframing issues of justice, access and healing. Acknowledging that our self-care is often secondary to needs of others, we strive to reach a place of healing – sound growth and mending – in all parts of our lives. Through realizing self determination, building and championing equitable communities, and celebrating of our value as women of color, we can embark on a path to regain the healthy bodies and communities that we deserve.
EWOCC is a call to action! We invite people of all ages, abilities, socioeconomic and immigration statuses, sexualities, religions and cultural backgrounds to contribute to the day’s events, as we aim to give activiststhe means to develop new strategies to address current struggles on our own terms.
The conference will host Andrea Smith and Radmilla Cody as keynote speakers.
